Tafhimul Quran Part 19
Tafhim-ul-Quran is a translation and explanation of the Quran by South Asian scholar Abul Ala Maududi. Maududi spent 30 years writing the work; he began in 1942 and completed it in 1972. Tafhim is derived from the Arabic word fahm which means "understanding". Tafhim is a combination of orthodox and modernist interpretation and has deeply influenced modern Islamic thought. It differs from traditional exegesis in several ways. It is more than a traditional commentary on the scripture as it contains discussions and debates regarding economics, sociology, history, and politics. In his text, Maududi highlights Quranic perspective and argues that Islam provides ample guidance in all spheres. Maududi uses the standard technique of providing an explanation of the Quranic verses from the Sunnah of Muhammed, including the historical reasons behind the verses. The Tafhim deals extensively with issues faced by the modern world in general and the Muslim community in particular.

The Odyssey is one of two major ancient Greek epic poems attributed to Homer. It is, in part, a sequel to the Iliad, the other work ascribed to Homer. The poem is fundamental to the modern Western canon, and is the second oldest extant work of Western literature, the Iliad being the oldest. Scholars believe it was composed near the end of the 8th century BC, somewhere in Ionia, the Greek coastal region of Anatolia.
The poem mainly centers on the Greek hero Odysseus (known as Ulysses in Roman myths) and his journey home after the fall of Troy. It takes Odysseus ten years to reach Ithaca after the ten-year Trojan War. In his absence, it is assumed he has died, and his wife Penelope and son Telemachus must deal with a group of unruly suitors, the Mnesteres or Proci, who compete for Penelopes hand in marriage.
It continues to be read in the Homeric Greek and translated into modern languages around the world. Many scholars believe that the original poem was composed in an oral tradition by an aoidos (epic poet/singer), perhaps a rhapsode (professional performer), and was more likely intended to be heard than read. The details of the ancient oral performance, and the storys conversion to a written work inspire continual debate among scholars. The Odyssey was written in a poetic dialect of Greek—a literary amalgam of Aeolic Greek, Ionic Greek, and other Ancient Greek dialects—and comprises 12,110 lines of dactylic hexameter. Among the most noteworthy elements of the text are its non-linear plot, and the influence on events of choices made by women and serfs, besides the actions of fighting men. In the English language as well as many others, the word odyssey has come to refer to an epic voyage.

The Communist Hypothesis by Alain Badiou
The Meaning of Sarkozy was okay, but I don’t really mess with the man. I’ll try to parse through this new little red book at some point, but Badiou’s prose is usually too convoluted for my Anglo-American mind and post-Maoists tend to unnerve me. Here’s something generic from the publisher:
Alain Badiou’s formulation of the “communist hypothesis” has traveled around the world since it was first aired in early 2008, in his book The Meaning of Sarkozy. The hypothesis is partly a demand to reconceptualize communism after the twin deaths of the Soviet Union and neoliberalism, but also a fresh demand for universal emancipation. As “third way” reforms prove as empty in practice as in theory, Badiou’s manifesto is a galvanizing call to arms that needs to be reckoned with by anyone concerned with the future of our planet.

Correctional psychiatry has received increasing recognition as an area of practice with unique skills and knowledge. Bangla magazine Anandamela 1st Year 04th Issue [July- 1975]. Anandamela is a childrens periodical in the Bengali language published by ABP Limited (Ananda Bazar Patrika Group) from Kolkata, India. Also, with the Sunday issue of Ananda Bazar Patrika, the Bengali, daily newspaper, a colourful page is distributed free of cost- that page is named as Anandamela.
It is published monthly. It has been edited by several eminent personalities at different times including the poet Nirendranath Chakravarty, Ashoke Kumar Sarkar, and Debasish Bandopadhyay. The present editor is Paulami Sengupta. Anandamela is one of the oldest surviving Bengali childrens magazines and is presently published once on the second day of every month. Many authors started writing for children through Anandamela; for example, author Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay was noticed as a childrens author after writing Manojder Adbhut Baari, which was published in Anandamela as a serial novel. On 19 June 2004, Anandamela split up into two different magazines, the original Anandamela (for children of the age group 8 – 14), and Unish Kuri, (for teens and young adults of the age group 15 – 25). Both the magazines are edited by the same editor and editorial team.
